AI document review for a busy legal practice — case study cover

// 01the challenge

The challenge

Veritas Chambers' associates spent hours on first-pass review of incoming contracts: identifying parties, flagging unusual clauses, and cross-referencing against the firm's precedent positions. High-value legal judgement was buried under mechanical reading.

Any AI assistance had to meet the profession's bar: confidential documents never leaving approved infrastructure, and every AI observation traceable to the exact clause that produced it.

// 02the solution

The solution

We built a secure review workspace where incoming contracts are processed by an LLM pipeline: clause extraction and classification, deviation flagging against the firm's playbook positions, and a first-pass summary — every finding linked to the source text so lawyers verify rather than trust.

The system runs on UK-hosted infrastructure with strict data boundaries, full audit logging, and an evaluation suite the firm can rerun whenever models change. Lawyers accept, amend or reject each finding; the AI drafts, humans decide.

// 03the results

The results

First-pass review time fell roughly 40%, freeing associates for advisory work. Flag precision passed the firm's own blind evaluation against senior-associate review, and the audit trail satisfied their professional indemnity insurer — the real test of any legal AI tool.
